Original Abstract

Atomization is a complex process that is not fully and satisfactorily described as it is influenced by many external and internal effects and forces. The measurement of either internal flow or the spray itself is affected by the imperfections of measuring techniques themselves, which need to be continuously developed and improved as the spray visualization requires advanced techniques for quality and reliable measurements. This article deals with laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) visualization techniques that allow a further shift in the understanding of the spray behaviour, for fluorescent liquids allow for much higher visibility and resolution of details as opposed to shadowgraphy. The promising results of the spray visualization in combination with high-speed imaging of different spill-line geometries are presented.
