Original Abstract

This work focuses on the evaluation of the volumetric accuracy of a machine tool depending on temperature measurement errors to improve manufacturing quality. The measurement of the volumetric accuracy of the machine tool and its results is, as with each measurement, subjected to a respective measurement uncertainty. In particular, this article describes the effect of measuring the temperatures necessary to correctly evaluate the volumetric error on machine tools. From the methodical procedure of measuring the volumetric accuracy of machine tools, the most suitable requirements for positions of the temperature sensors are as close as possible to the axes of motion of the machine tool and their linear encoders. This article describes the effect of measurement errors caused by inappropriate positioning of temperature sensors on the resulting volumetric accuracy by means of a case study on a three-axis machining centre.
