Kniha renomovaného historika architektu- ry severoirského původu, profesora Jamese Stevense Curla je vydaná v angličtině, v Oxfordu v roce 2018. Na obalu knihy je zobrazena váha, jejichž misky nesou dva pro- tichůdné světy. Deset kapitol více než pětiset- stránkové knihy doplňuje sto čtrnáct černo- bílých fotografií a ilustrací. Cíl tohoto díla se může mnohým čtenářům zdát překvapivý, až kontroverzní: doložit historickými fakty a je- jich zasvěcenou interpretací, že vítězné tažení modernistického hnutí v architektuře 20. sto- letí bylo ve skutečnosti prohrou pro většinu jejích uživatelů. Jednotlivé kapitoly nabízejí odpovědi v chronologickém pořadí. Ukažme zde na několik myšlenek a tvrzení z úvodní kapitoly Počátky katastrofy: znalosti ve sta- vebnictví a ornamentu, předávané po mnoho staletí architekty z jedné generace na druhou, byly opuštěny po první světové válce. Nový, modernistický styl vznikl právě v této době.

The book by the renowned historian of architecture of Northern Ireland, Professor James Stevens Curl, is published in English in Oxford in 2018. The weight of the book is shown on the cover of the book, the bowls of which bear two silent worlds. Ten chapters of more than five hundred thousand books complement one hundred and fourteen black and white photographs and illustrations. The aim of this work may seem surprising, even controversial to many readers: to prove with historical facts and their insightful interpretation that the victorious campaign of the Modernist movement in the 20th century architecture was in fact a defeat for most of its users. Individual chapters offer answers in chronological order. Here are some ideas and arguments from the introductory chapter Beginning of the Disaster: knowledge of construction and ornamentation, passed down by generations of architects from one generation to the next for many centuries, was abandoned after the First World War. A new, modernist style was created at this time.
