Original Abstract

On the Faculty of Civil Engineering (Brno University of Technology) is for several years being developed and researched properties of modern building materials. One of the areas is the development and modification of the properties of masonry elements. In last time was development focused also on masonry blocks that are able to withstand the increased moisture loads. These masonry blocks can be used as protection buildings in the flood areas or protection for building in the natural disasters time. Increased moisture can be one of the most common problems encountered in building structures. The most problems are with moisture in liquid form, which can have significant effects on changing properties of materials and structures. If is load the structure of brick blocks with moisture in liquid form occurs due to an open porosity and thereby also related to high water absorption, it leads very often to the change in the properties and reduce the service life of masonry blocks. This paper deals study of using special products based on silicone on the surface layer of ceramic masonry elements. With application this silicone agents is formed on surface of masonry blocks safety surface layer. Through this protection, hydrophobization, is masonry blocks protected before the effects of increased humidity. hydrophobization reduces the water absorption of masonry blocks and eliminates negative effect of the moisture on the properties of masonry blocks. Using hydrophobization masonry blocks can be very effective as preventive protection in case of failure or damage of conventional waterproofing measures.
