Original Abstract

The advancements in the prediction of local aerosol deposition in human airways are driven by fast development of computational simulations. However, the confidence in simulated results is not a matter of course. Verification and validation of numerical calculations represent crucial and indispensable step of the process. The aim of this contribution is to introduce the realistic replica of human airways developed at Brno University of Technology, the experimental methods that were applied, and available results. The replica comprises of nasal and oral airways followed by tracheobronchial tree down to the seventh generation of branching. Limitations and possibilities associated with the applied experimental methods are indicated and aspects of the computational calculations that can be validated are suggested.
