Original Abstract

The demand for the Europeanization for language teaching in a university context requiring meeting standards or standardised descriptors shared within Europe, revisiting a concept of specificity in LSP teaching and establishing specific study skills and language forms for students at technically-oriented universities, support the idea of constructing a foreign language standard for these particular groups. At present this idea is being relised at the Brno University of Technology. Needs analysis is being done as the basis for the future setting of a standard for technically-oriented language courses. In order to meet the demands of the European harmonisation of university language programs, the language standard will be freely based on standardised word descriptors, scales and levels of the Common Europeand Framework of Reference for Languages (Council of Europe 2001). The assessment of teachers and students according to European scales and levels will enable an internationally understandable students' output leading to the mutual recognition of university language qualifications.
