Original Abstract

This contribution focuses on the characterization and selected applications of recently developed micro torch based on surface wave sustained microwave discharge. In contrary to the commonly used plasma jets where plasma-surface interaction is limited to the post-discharge zone, only, this new system allows interaction of active discharge with the surfaces. The different quartz discharge tubes effect was investigated with respect to the plasma parameters, both theoretically and experimentally. The treatment of selected small fruit surface was observed with respect to its bacterial decontamination and food quality. The second application was surface energy modification of polycaprolactane that is known as biocompatible material. Finally, the direct plasma application on wound healing was successfully tested using laboratory mice. All obtained results confirmed very good micro torch properties and its good applicability in the plasma-bio interactions.
