Original Abstract

A beam- and polarization-reconfigurable substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) ring-slot antenna array is proposed in this paper. The 2×2 ring-slot antenna array can generate beams in four different directions in two orthogonal linear polarizations. This is achieved by a feeding network consisting of four 90 ° SIW 3-dB couplers arranged in a multilayer structure for a compact antenna size of 131.6mm×65.8mm×4.9mm. The antenna elements’ linear polarization plane is controlled by PIN diodes, switched by a DC bias network integrated on the antenna substrate. The proposed antenna array is designed for the 5.8GHz ISM frequency band and verified by measurements. Experimental results validate good impedance matching over the entire frequency band as well as the beam and polarization reconfigurability.
