Original Abstract

Thermal transformation of sewage sludge is typically accompanied by production of pyrolysis oil, pyrolysis gas (syngas) and solid char product called either charcoal or biochar, when applied in agriculture. In this work, we used a full-scale microwave pyrolysis unit with 3 kW magnetron with the frequency of 2.45 GHz at low atmospheric pressure. The main aim was the characterization of the produced sludge-derived biochar. The analyses included determination of solid yield of biochar, immobilization of heavy metals in sewage sludge by production of biochar, combustion energy and structure of biochar.
