Original Abstract

Electric drives in are already quiet common in application with heavy vehicles (1), (2) and (3). This paper deals with possibility of utilization of independent (battery powered) electric drive in trail forwarder. This conception allows to place drive wheel directly under the load which reduces wheel slip of main tractor which is beneficial in terms of ground erosion in the forest during harvesting operations. Another advantage of utilization of electric drive in doubled car axis is possibility to instantly increase maximum power of the whole drive in extreme conditions. The whole drive system can consist of trail forwarder and the tractor with low weight and maximum power, which leads to lower price of the whole system together with lower fuel consumption. Lower fuel consumption is given by lower wheel slip in this application and not by the possibility to accumulate energy in battery during tractor braking as is common in electric car applications. These fact is caused especially by low speed of the loaded trail forwarder.
