Original Abstract

Resonant ultrasound spectroscopy technique was applied to analyze the elastic behavior of thick copper, aluminum, titanium, and nickel coatings prepared by cold spraying technology. The aim of the study was determination of the elastic moduli and anisotropy character of the coatings as compared to their respective polycrystalline bulk counterparts. The results show that, as opposed to high temperature methods such as plasma spray, the coatings exhibit only weak deviations from perfect isotropy and the obtained elastic moduli are comparable with those of the corresponding bulks. Further to that, sub-grain boundary sliding is suggested as a mechanism for accommodation of the deformation in the elastic range.
