Original Abstract

Electrospray of liquids occurs when an electric field of sufficient strength acts on the liquid surface that flows through a capillary. Critical voltage for the electrospray formation scales with the liquid surface tension. Therefore, the electrospray of high surface tension liquids (e.g. water) is always accompanied with atmospheric corona discharge.
