Original Abstract

Hydroxyapatite/titanium (HA/Ti) composite powders were prepared by high-energy ball milling for deposition by cold spray technology. Different milling times and HA/Ti feedstock ratios were used. The microstructural properties and phase composition of the HA/Ti composites powders were studied by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray analysis, respectively, and their particle sizes were measured. The results showed a formation of new phases in the powders structure (CaTiO3 perovskite) after extended milling times (8h and 10h). Breakup of Al2O3 balls during milling after 8h and 10h milling was observed, yielding Al2O3 content in the powders. The results further confirmed that high-energy ball milling is a suitable method for the preparation of HA/Ti composite powders for deposition of coating by cold spray technology.
