Original Abstract

Echo cancellers have become an integral part of almost all telecommunication systems utilized today. Testing and standardization of such devices, however, is still under development and we can truly declare that there are many areas which have not been explored yet. Above all standardization bodies dealing with line echoes and its cancellation stands the ITU-T, which has developped and delivered the G.168 Reccommendation. This document represents a comprehensive set of instructions and tests for echo canceller evaluation. The last version of G.168 is dated to June 2002. To comply with the G.168 a particular echo canceller must successfully go through all compulsory tests and provide satisfactory performance. There are certain signal level limits that under no circumstances may be excceeded. The better the result of a particular test the more satisfactory performance of a canceller can be expected under real conditions. This article discusses the problems of off-line echo canceller testing using Matlab-GUIDE.
