Original Abstract

The influence of yield strength variability along cross-section on load carrying capacity variability of a stability of compression member is demonstrated in the present paper. Real loading tests were simulated, i.e., also the variability of initial material and geometrical imperfections was taken into consideration. The load carrying capacity individual realizations of which were calculated by the geometrically and physically nonlinear solution in each run of the simulation method was analysed statistically. The numerical simulation method Latin Hypercube Sampling was applied which allowed, with advantage, to carry out a very good evaluation both of mean value and standard deviation by using a relatively low number of simulation runs. The yield strength variability was taken into consideration by applying the so-called random fields.
