In the paper, we describe the basic types of DDoS attacks and the methods of their detection. Further, DDoS defense and mitigation mechanisms are outlined. The paper presents the general test scenario of network devices under DDoS attacks. We use a stress tester which enables us to generate network traffic from emulated clients and from DDoS attackers.
