Original Abstract

In recent years, a significant development of graphics processing units (GPUs) has been made. The main feature of GPUs is an extremely high computing performance in comparison to state-of-the-art CPU computing. Though primarily intended for gaming and computer graphic purposes, GPUs can widely be used for general-purpose computing (GPGPU) including large-scale engineering problems. The paper presents the use of GPGPU in computationally demanding transient heat transfer problem in which the CUDA architecture and NVIDIA Tesla GPU were used. The comparison of computing performance shows that GPGPU computing is a very efficient tool for solving problems, which allows high parallelization.
