On the project

In this project, I am going to investigate morphogenesis of a muscle group that does not have bone-to-bone attachments and constitute an evolutionary conserved cranial muscle unit - the extraocular muscles (EOMs). These muscles are responsible for the coordinated movement of the eyeballs and vision. The aim of this project is to build a precise spatiotemporal map of EOM patterning from their emergence as a unique anlage. This would help to understand how myogenic cells integrate with connective tissue, tendons and attachment points to form a functional unit.
