BUT students show what innovation means in practice

Creativity, technical and artistic skills, innovative thinking and a desire to change the world – students at Brno University of Technology combine all of this in their ideas, which often go far beyond the scope of their studies. More than 30 ideas were submitted to the 6th annual BUT Student Entrepreneurship Award of the Go to Business! project, and 19 teams entered the Booster-Challenge BUT 2025. In their projects, students tackle real-world challenges – from technological processes and design to ecological innovations and digital apps for everyday life – breaking down barriers between theory and practical societal impact.

Out of all registered submissions, 20 ideas advanced to the second round of the 6th edition of the BUT Student Entrepreneurship Award within the Go to Business! project, of which 10 will proceed to the finals. In the second and third final rounds, students will pitch their solutions to a judging panel composed of representatives from BUT and JIC, where they will demonstrate the purpose, sustainability, and business potential of their ideas. “Students continue to surprise us not only with their technical and creative maturity but especially with their ability to come up with truly original solutions,” said Vít Chlebovský, contriBUTe coordinator and jury member.

The competition is open to all students of bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs who are not afraid of challenges and are passionate about technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Interest is especially high among bachelor’s students, with the most entrepreneurial students coming from FME, FIT, FEEC, FP, and FaVU. This year, CESA students joined the competition for the first time. The results will be announced in the spring of next year.

Vítězslav Beran, the founder of the Booster Challenge, emphasized the strong synergy between both competitions and explained their great benefit for participants. Booster Challenge is a summer competition for those who want to spend their holidays creating, not resting. In this challenge, students build the first prototype of their idea, which they can also submit to the Student Entrepreneurship Award. This award gives students the chance to further develop their project and explore its business potential. Originally focused on IT related ideas, the Booster Challenge has now opened up to all faculties at BUT thanks to its connection with contriBUTe.

BUT is building one of the most dynamic university innovation ecosystems in the Czech Republic. The innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem contriBUTe connects education, opportunities, events, resources, and networks in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship. It supports talent development and helps both students and staff take the next step on their path to success. It contributes to turning ideas into real businesses.
