2. round (applications submitted from 09.11.2015 to 13.12.2015)

  1. Analysis of nonlinear fracture of structural materials using acoustic emission and radiography

Majority of structural materials can be categorized, from the material failure point of view, as quasi-brittle or ductile. They are characteristic by formation and propagation of sizeable nonlinear zone in front of the tip of a defect that causes violation of their integrity. Capturing the nonlinear zone influence is the key to significant improvement in accuracy of the failure description. Nonlinear zone characterization will be conducted via advanced experiments (AE, X-ray) and simulations.

Tutor: Veselý Václav, doc. Ing., Ph.D.

  2. Analysis of the failure proceses of railway sleepers

Pre-stressed reinforced concrete railway sleepers are among the most massively produced and used structural members. Their failure under different loadings concerning both boundary conditions (laboratory tests under three-point bending - quality-controlling tests, when placed in the railway superstructure) and type of the loading (static, dynamics, fatigue). Attention will be paid to detailed modelling of failure in selected parts of the sleeper. The work will contain also related experiments.

Tutor: Veselý Václav, doc. Ing., Ph.D.

  3. Application of high-performance concretes in building structures and members.

Application of high-performance concrete is the modern way for more cost-effective concrete structures. Actually, the high (improved) performance can be besides an ordinary strength for example shrinkage, creep, durability of concrete etc. The student should cope with conception of such concretes and techniques of observation of their structural parameters and conception of their application in today structures.

Tutor: Terzijski Ivailo, prof. Ing., CSc.

  4. The research of dynamic behaviour of railway lines

The theme is focused on study of dynamic behaviour of railway lines. The theme includes railway superstructure and railway subbase. Topic involves experiment and simulation techniques. The tema also includes application of a suitable modern mathematical apparatus for the evaluation of the railway lines parameters including of artificial intelligence methods using.

Tutor: Smutný Jaroslav, prof. Ing., Dr.

  5. The role of fracture process zone in failure of quasi-brittle materials

Fracture of quasi-brittle materials is the main scope of the research. Crack propagation is studied from the perspective of current approaches to fracture modelling - analytical models and numerical simulations - and experiments. Attention is paid to the role of nonlinear zone evolving in front of the propagating crack in the fracture description. Effects of size, geometry and free boundaries of the body are studied in context with the existence of this zone.

Tutor: Veselý Václav, doc. Ing., Ph.D.

  6. Update of the road design elements

The subject of the dissertation thesis is to update the selected elements from the Czech standards ČSN 73 6101, ČSN 73 6102 a ČSN 73 6110 following the revision of these standards.

    Tutor: Radimský Michal, Ing., Ph.D.

1. round (applications submitted from 23.06.2015 to 31.07.2015)

  1. Resistance of loaded structures of construction fibre concretes to the action of environment and chemical substances.

The main goal of the dissertation is to analyze permeability and diffussion characteristics of fibre concretes with selected types and doses of fibres. The testing will be carried out on both loaded and unloaded samples with cracks made by bend loadind. The main output will be the proposal of formulations and estimation of durability of different types of fibre concretes especially loaded to achieve higher durability of reinforced concrete constructions.

Tutor: Stehlík Michal, doc. Ing., Ph.D.

  2. The method of acoustic emission for the study of dependence of deformational characteristics of loaded fibre concretes in different environments

The addition of different types of fibres to various formulations of concretes stops the creation of microcracks in hydration time, and later, under loading, improves ductility behaviour of concrete after the creation of bend crack. The innovated method of acoustic emission can be used to study the dependence of crack creation – decrease of loadability – deformation of loaded fibre concretes of different formulations exposed in advance to the action of limiting environmental conditions.

Tutor: Stehlík Michal, doc. Ing., Ph.D.
