Quotas

The breakdown of quotas means the number of scholarships for certain countries that the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports assigns for a given academic year to specific public higher education institutions in the Czech Republic. Only candidates from the respective institutions can apply for the scholarships. The breakdown of scholarships is specified in comprehensible tables.

  • If a higher education institution has been assigned a quota, i.e. a specific number of scholarships, candidates are nominated by the rectorate of the institution.
  • If “n” is indicated in the breakdown table, this means that the higher education institution can nominate a substitute.
  • The offer is not specified in relation to specific higher education institutions abroad.
  • It is presumed that the candidates will find the contacts they are interested in with respect to their fields on their own.

Submission of an application

  • Applicants requesting scholarships within the quotas submit the application to stay abroad/application for scholarship approved by the faculty to the rectorate of their home institution.
  • Rectorates set their own deadlines for submission of the Applications to stay abroad/applications for scholarships so that the selection of candidates within the institution can be made on the basis of the submitted materials. The deadline for submission of the applications to the rectorate therefore cannot be the same as the deadline in the schedule of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and it is necessary to inquire about it at the respective rectorate beforehand.

Practical information

  • The duration of the stay, the number of places, the requirements on an applicant etc. follow from international (bilateral) agreements on the basis of which Czech students can stay abroad with scholarships.
  • Some tables include references to detailed information which is a mandatory part of the conditions governing admission to study in the respective countries and it is therefore necessary to become familiar with it.
  • To search for study options, please use the SCHOLARSHIPS SEARCH ENGINE.
  • TRAVEL EXPENSES – in the majority of the international treaties, scholarship holders have their travel expenses reimbursed. After returning from your stay abroad, it is necessary to submit:
    • original counterparts of the documents related to the travel expenses to the student/foreign relations department of the respective faculty
    • in the case of cashless payment, a bank account statement must be submitted
    • only return flight, bus or train tickets are reimbursed

Calls for applications

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports opens calls for applications to stay aboard intended for students and teachers of public universities in the Czech Republic on the basis of international treaties.

Offer of stays

  • The offer is not specified in relation to specific higher education institutions abroad. It is presumed that the candidates will find the contacts they are interested in with respect to their fields on their own.
  • The duration of the stay, the number of places, the requirements on an applicant etc. follow from international (bilateral) agreements on the basis of which Czech students can stay abroad with scholarships.

Selection procedure

  • For the majority scholarship stays there is a selection procedure consisting in an interview in the respective language requiring personal presence of the candidates.During the interview, the selection committee evaluates:
    • study or research aim
    • study motivation
    • language skills
    • communication skills of applicants.
  • Sometimes, the candidate to go abroad with a scholarship is selected on the basis of the documentation submitted only.
  • The selection committee is usually composed of representatives of the foreign partner (employees of the relevant diplomatic mission or foreign organisation) and of the employees of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports or other institutions.
  • The proceedings of the selection committee result in recommendation of candidates and substitutes to be granted scholarships. It is the foreign partner who decides about the admission of the candidate to stay abroad based on a scholarship and usually pays the scholarship, and therefore decides about its granting.
  • Recommended candidates are generally informed about the decision on acceptance or non-acceptance directly by the diplomatic mission of the relevant country or other foreign institution. If the stay is planned to begin in the winter semester, the candidate will generally receive the notice by the end of June of the given calendar year. The admission and grant of the scholarship usually take place several months after the selection procedure.
  • No one has a legal claim to a scholarship
  • TRAVEL EXPENSES – in the majority of the international treaties, scholarship holders have their travel expenses reimbursed. After returning from your stay abroad, it is necessary to submit:
    • original counterparts of the documents related to the travel expenses to the student/foreign relations department of the respective faculty
