Laboratory classes of of Environmental Sampling

Block 1:
Under the subject it will be carry out in several blocks practical sampling of all matrices in the environment. Students will familiarize with the whole sampling procedure; from the book of samples and samplers preparation, via sampling in the ground to the final treatment of samples prior to analysis. Apart from classic sampling of water and soil some types of passive samplers will used.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

To gain knowledges of the correct processing of standard operating procedures for sampling. To gain practical experiences of environmental matrices sampling; especially water, sediment, soil, air and biotic matrices, that means plants and animal tissues. The processing of sampling protocols.

Prerequisites

It is highly recommended to attend lectures Basis of environmental sampling, which are before practical lectures and are closely related with them.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course uses teaching methods in form of specialized lab - 4 teaching hours per week. The e-learning system (LMS Moodle) is available to teachers and students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

After the processing of the sampling plan this plan will approved. Thanks mentioned plan can students participate in sampling, which will be in block in 4 periods. Four periods are because of more quantity of samples. Processed protocols will be evaluated. After the meeting of this conditions knowledges of students will verified by test.

Course curriculum

1. The verification of basic sampling knowledges.
2. The way of preparing the sampling plan for individual matrices, the processing requirements of the correct sampling protocol.
3. to 6. Samplings of water and air.
7. to 10. Sampling of solid matrices (soil, sediment, sewage sludges from water treatment plants, plants matrices).
11. to 12. Sampling of an animal biota.
13. Protocols checking, test.

Aims

To learn to work up a standard operating procedure for sampling of various environmental matrices. To familiarize practically with the whole procedure of the selection of appropriate samplers for environmental matrices sampling.
