Content of the course
Practical skills: Talking about the past, ask for reasons, talk about recent events, express indefinite quantities, ask someone about his health, express temporary attributes, ask about transport and travel, compare two or more things, describe attributes of objects, weather, talk about usual activities in the past, talk about how often something takes place, express real conditions, describe the past, biography
Grammar: Present perfect, past participle, past simple, indefinite pronouns, impersonal verbs, past progressive (imperfectum), real conditionals, superlative, revision of past tenses
Vocabulary: Describing landscape, moods, weather, parts of the body, illness sport and sport facilities, historical events.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Student is able to understand basic information if they are produced in a standard manner. Students lear to produce basic coherent texts that cover basic topics. The level acquired is A2- (according to EFR. After completion of the course the student is able to use with confidence past tenses with relative fluency in the context of simple past events. The student is also able to express past - present relation with relative effortlessness. He/She is able to describe everyday events and objects of common use. The student is able to talk about sport, moods, weather. In the cultural context the student is able to understand simple texts describing historical events and realia of spanish speaking countries.

Prerequisites

In order for the student to enter this course it is important that he/she has knowledge of Spanish at A1+ level. The student should have mastered genders of the most used nouns and adjectives, should have knowledge of the basic questions words in Spanish in order to be able to form simple questions. Present tense, basic prepositions and very basic prepositional frases are required. The use of articles, the verb "to be" in both forms (SER - ESTAR). Student should be able to actively use subject, posesive, reflexive and object pronouns. From the lexical point of view the student should have knowledge of profesions, nationalities, colors, numbers cardinal and ordinal, food (basic), leisure activities, the calendar year (days, weeks, months).

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

In each class there are 16 students at the most. The communicative method is used most of the time. Audiovisual equipment and internet are used during sessions as well. Types of exercises covered are listening, writing, reading, reading comprehension, pair or group tasks.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The requirements for the succesful completion of the course are attendance (no more than 3 sessions missed) and active participation in class. If the student does not fulfill the above mentioned, then it is necessary to take an "End of course test" at the end of the term. The score of the test needs to be above 50% in order to successfully pass it.

Week 1 - Unit 11 Expressing and describing impressions, conversation with friends at a party.
Week 2 - Unit 11 Past simple of irregular verbs, indefinite pronouns and adjectives.
Week 3 - Unit 12 Travelling and weather. Baggage reclaim.
Week 4 - Unit 12 Demostrative and possesive pronouns, verbs related to weather.
Week 5 - Unit 13 Describing everyday activities in the past. Health and the human body.
Week 6 - Unit 13 Imperfect past. The verb "to hurt"
Week 7 - Unit 14 Enrolling at University and studying foreign languages.
Week 8 - Unit 14 Direct and indirect object, conditional clauses.
Week 9 - Unit 15 Talking about someone else´s life using the reviewed past tenses.
Week 10 - Unit 15- Past simple. Comparatives and superlatives of adjectives.
Week 11 - Review of tenses.
Week 12 - Conversation about reviewed topics.
Week 13 - End of course test (according to specifications given by tutor.

Aims

The aim of this course is to teach the Spanish language and the basic communicative skills that are necessary to achieve the level A2- according to the EFR (European Frame of Reference). For a succesful completion of the course the student should have mastered the uses of past tenses, real conditionals. The student should be able to describe everyday situations and objects. The context of the course is sport, moods, past and recent events. In the cultural context the student will learn about facts of Spanish speaking countries.
