Physical Culture

The subject focuses on general theory of physical training and society. The subject is composed of selected chapters from physical training and society, sociology and physical training hygiene. The aim of the subject focuses on the acquisition of knowledge about the importance of human movement activities and the gaining of knowledge about the prerequisites for human movement.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Orientation in the issues of physical training. Understanding of the importance of movement activity for a person. Acquisition of an overview of a wide spectrum of relationships between sport and society.

Prerequisites

Basic orientation in social science field at a secondary shool level.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Lectures consist of an explanation of basic principles, methodology of the discipline, problems and their solutions.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Awarding of credit:
Credit: Attendance of lectures, and a credit test. The credit is awarded on the basis of participation in lectures and active participation in practical lessons.

Form of the examination and the final classification of the subject:
Examination: Combined examination.

- Society and culture. Mass communication. Social structure. Social inequality.
- Civil society. Traditional social institutions. Globalization. Sport and society. Ageing of society. Humans, the environment and education. Social psychology.
- Delimitation of the term 'physical training'. Physical training and society. Importance of physical training, aim and tasks of physical training, system of physical training and society. Appearance and development of physical training in society (history). Contemporary trends in physical training.
- Movement activities and their forms (physical education, movement-based recreation activities, sport). Physical exercise, movement structure, movement tendencies.
- Forms of physical education. The physical training process and its forms.
- Movement, health and leisure time (Healthy lifestyle - wellness fitness, diseases of civilisation and movement i.e. Movement activities for those with health limitations, Movement activities for children and youths, Sport for active adults, Movement activities for seniors, Health and remedial physical education).
- Delimitation of the term 'physical training process hygiene'.
- Health as the optimum state of physical, mental and social well-being.
- Basic hygienic habits, the importance and maintenance of basic hygienic norms at sports facilities.

- There are no practical lessons for the subject.

Aims

The aim of the subject focuses on the acquisition of knowledge about the importance of human movement activities and the gaining of knowledge about the prerequisites for human movement.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The subject is composed of lectures which are compulsory. Any absence must be duly excused and substituted for after agreement with the head of the subject. The subject will finish with a combined examination.
