Psychology of Physical Culture

Students will acquire basic knowledge about the subject of interest and the internal division of psychology, familiar with the basic theories of personality, psychological tools for the description of the personality, acquire knowledge of physical exercise psychology, sport psychology and mental hygiene basics.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The aim of the subject is to understand the laws behind and mechanisms of the creation, formation and course of human experience and behaviour. It is to learn to understand a personality in a mutual relationship with the environment. It is also to acquaint the students with basic knowledge form the areas of developmental psychology, psychology of personality, the theory of learning and social psychology.

Prerequisites

Basic orientation in psychology at secondary school level.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Lectures consist of an explanation of basic principles, methodology of the discipline, problems and their solutions.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Credit: attendance at lectures and participation in them (papers, presentations, self-study).
PowerPoint presentation on a chosen topic (30 points).
Exam: Knowledge test (70 points)
Grading Scale: A - F (1-4)

Course curriculum

1. Psychology as a science. Subject and tasks of psychological sciences. History of Psychology. Mental processes and states.
2. Personality, its structure, dynamics and evolution. Constitution of personality, personality typology. Features temperament and methods of learning.
3. Methods of Personality. Psychological diagnostics. Personality development. Puberty and adolescence.
4. Psychological aspects of learning theory, learning and memory. Testing, analysis of the causes of poor welfare of students, educational difficulties.
5. Mental Hygiene. Stress, adaptive technology active and passive. Conflict situations and their solutions.
6. Social Communication in life and in school. Types of communication. Analysis of verbal and nonverbal communication examples.
7. Selection of occupation, type of work and learning environment. Social Psychology. Social groups. Group climate.
8. The sport psychology, historical development, current status of sport psychology, sport typology. Personality athletes - skills related to sports activities.
9. ontogeny related to sports activities. Phase motor learning, plateau effect and the forgetting curve. Prelaunch, launch and competitive conditions, psychological failure. Sport and mental health, mental hygiene athletes.
10. Assertiveness and aggression in sport.
11. Coaching, coaching tasks, dyadic interaction.

Aims

The aim is to understand patterns and mechanisms of formation, formation and progress of human experience and behavior. Learning to recognize personality in interaction with the environment. To familiarize students with basic knowledge in the field of developmental psychology, personality psychology, social psychology and learning theory and sport psychology.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The course consists of lectures, which are mandatory. The course will conclude with an examination - written test. Absence must be properly excused and replaced by arrangement with the teacher.
