Technologies of Plastics

Analysis of plastic as construction material with respect to its physical, mechanical, thermal and other qualities. Technology of plastic processing in general. Technology of injecting, effect of technological parameters on the quality of plastic products. Character of technology in plastic products, construction of tools - mainly of the forms for injecting plastics. Extrusion and following technologies, pressing of plastics, injection blow moulding, blast ejection, shaping and welding of plastics.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

To enable students to gain basic knowledge about structural, mechanical, rheological and processing qualities of polymers, as well as information about main technologies including information about the application of plastics in several industrial areas.

Course curriculum

1) Introduction to history of plastics, plastics as construction material, division of plastics, basic concepts, application of plastics.
2) Composition and structure of plastics, physical and mechanical qualities, transitional temperatures of polymers, deformation curves, processing qualities of plastic molten masses, labelling of plastics.
3) Solving the shape and choosing the material when constructing plastic components, principles of the design technology of plastic component.
4) Division and overview of plastic processing technologies, technology of injecting
5)-6) Injecting machines, their division, and their basic technical parametres, introduction to injecting forms.
7)-8) Description and division of injecting forms, procedures when designing injecting forms, systems of injecting forms
9)-10) Technology of pressing and transfer moulding of reactoplastics, technology of extrusion of plastics
11)-12) Blowing, shaping and working of plastics
13) Welding and pasting of plastics, the most important application of plastics in various areas

To familiarize students with the basics of the most frequently used technologies in the area of plastic processing and with the principles of machine construction and instruments providing these technologies.
