Yumi Yahiro, the teacher from ASABI college of Art in Tokyo, will teach the technique of traditional Japanese painting on the workshop basis.

1. Materials - the washi paper, eginu silk, brushes
2. monochrome vs. polychromic painting
3. sumi ink
4. monochrome techniques, ink toning
5. the meaning of the outline
6. students work on their individual tasks
7. historical context of Japanese painting, the position of nihonga in contemporary art
8. using nihonga in fine art

Aims

POlychromic nihonga. Overlaps with western painting or individual brushwork styles will be discussed. Students will learn about the traditional materials and techniques.
