Kolejnet

From every dorm room, easy access is available to a network (Kolejnet) run by the BUT Computer and Information Services Centre (CIS). In addition to Internet connectivity, students may also have an e-mail account, receive digital TV programmes, share data, use voice and text communication (chat), etc.

A fee is charged for KolejNet connection. Every hall of residence site is administered by a CIS employee. The administrators' names and addresses are posted on the Kolejnet and can also be found in the porter's lodge and on the Kolejnet notice board.

Student consulting

In addition to its educational activities, the BUT Lifelong Learning Institute also offers various counselling services. These are at present oriented towards student career counselling and cooperation with companies and organizations. Students are also advised in difficult situations and distress related not only to the studies. All the services are offered to students free of charge.

Přes bloky is the name of another counselling centre that students may turn to. Started in April 2007, the centre offers its services to BUT students, teachers as well as to students from other Brno universities.

The Přes bloky counselling centre's mission is:

• to provide free psychology and legal counselling to students, to give assistance to the disabled students and applicants for study as well as to help address day-to-day problems of the halls-of-residence community
• to work with the student community (since the centre was created by Accommodation and Catering Services, it is primarily concerned with students living at halls of residence) - to support the students' interests and needs, to deal with the current problems specific for the student community,
• to organize cultural, educational, and sports events for students, to encourage volunteers
