NETME Centre

NETME Centre – in full name New Technologies for Mechanical Engineering – is designed as a regional research and development centre based on a high-quality scientific and research background of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. The project is funded by the EU and the Ministry of Education, project of Operation Program Research and Development for Innovations, Priority Axis 2 - Regional R & D centers with subsidies reaching 767 502 284, – CZK (EU support 652 376 944 CZK and support from the state budget  115 125 343,- CZK). Professor Petr Stehlík is the project director and “guru” of the idea of the NETME Centre.

The project was evaluated as the best prepared Czech project in the area of regional research and development centers from different fields. Thus, NETME Centre begun the first from the projects supported by subsidies from EU. From October 2010, Ing. Peregrina Štípová is a NETME Centre Executive Director.

Center activities are designed to develop cooperation with the application and business sphere and to strengthen the competitiveness of the region to participate in developing the economy knowledge of the region and to allow flexible access of private subjects to the latest research results on contract basis, to ensure maximal application potential. The Centre also aims to employ young scientific workers and to provide development for their scientific potential. The project is based upon many years of scientific and research activity of FME BUT as well as on industrial tradition of Brno and the whole South Moravian region. There were ca 50 companies showing the interest for cooperation with NETME Centre in the initial survey.

NETME Centre is designed as a mutually interconnected body consisting of 5 divisions:

  • Division PPE – Division of Power, Process and Environmental Engineering
  • Division AAT – Division of Aircraft and Automotive Technology
  • Division M – Division of Mechatronics
  • Division VMDT - Division of Virtual Machine Design and Testing
  • Division AMM - Division of Advanced Metal Materials

The project was officially launched on January 1st 2010.

Division of Power, Process and Environmental Engineering PPE

Head of division: doc. Ing. Jaroslav Horský, CSc.

Division of Power, Process and Environmental Engineering is focused on applied and basic research and development in the field of environmental protection, power facilities and process technologies. Division basic activities are development of research activities with application potential and industrial cooperation.

In addition to its own projects, participation on the issues of other divisions is expected as well as active collaboration with key industrial partners in the form of implementation of new and innovative technologies and equipment, customized activities, expertise and joint projects. The facilities will be equipped with unique technologies, such as model of energy-intensive process.

Division of Aircraft and Automotive Technology AAT

Head of division: doc. Ing. Jaroslav Juračka, Ph.D.

Division of Aircraft and Automotive Technology is focused on applied research and development in the field of transport technology with the main scope in the higher effectiveness and safety, reducing the impact on the environment and utilization of brand new technologies.

Division of Mechatronics M

Head of division: doc. RNDr. Ing. Tomáš Březina, CSc.

Division of Mechatronics is focused on applied research and development of unique technical solutions for intelligent electromechanical systems. Activities are mainly based on developing long-term success and seeking topics of assigned workplaces FME BUT participating in the division with the possibility of using new division facilities, collaboration with other divisions and cooperation with industry.

Division of Virtual Machine Design and Testing VMDT

Head of division: prof. Ing. Martin Hartl, Ph.D.

Division activities are focused on research, education and provision of comprehensive services in the field of new products development using the latest knowledge of basic and applied sciences and integration of computer, information and communication technologies into the design process. Research activities are focused mainly on the use of universal design and technology of computer numerical simulation (Virtual Prototyping and Virtual Testing) and the real test in the development of new products.

Division of Advanced Metal Materials AMM

Head of division: prof. Ing. Ivo Dlouhý, CSc.

Division of Advanced Metal Materials is focused on applied and basic research on selected groups of promising metallic materials, respectively procedures of their preparation, as well as it is focused on the education of highly specialized experts in the field of material sciences and engineering.
